We use a and an for singular countable nouns.
We use the when those nouns are specific.
We use some and any for uncountable nouns or for plural nouns. Remember some is mostly used in affirmative sentences whereas any is used in negations and questions.
We use how many and a few for countable nouns, and we use how much and a little for uncountable nouns.
A lot of is used for countable and uncountable nouns, mostly in affirmative sentences.

First Conditional. Conditions and Results

First conditional sentences are easy. You must use present simple for the if clause, which is the condition, and future with will or won't for the result, that is, the consequence of the condition. Conditions may also be introduced by unless plus an affirmative sentence. Do you know how to tell conditions from results? Driving Game. Past Simple vs Past Continuous

We use the past continuous:
* for progressive actions,
* for actions happening at the same time
* and for long actions that are interrupted by another action. The latter usually happens all of a sudden.

Most times, past simple sentences are preceded by when and past continuous sentences are preceded by while or as.
